The Scene Like Marcel Proust with his madelaine, a trip to Paradou will send you into fond rememberances of trips to Provence. In the pretense-filled world that is the Meatpacking District, Paradou is a fresh breath of authenticity. You will certainly feel transported whiling away the hours in Paradou's tiny but airy and bright dining room or in their sprawling year-round garden, chatting around tables of wooden wine crates, sampling wines from an all-French wine list, and dining on food that would feel right at home in a small village in the Luberon. Service is casual but knowledgeable and professional. The Food Trained by legends Paul Bocuse and Daniel Boulud, Chef Kfir Ben-Ari puts his own spin on French classics. Start with the Beet Ravioli with Goat Cheese where the ravioli is made of thinly sliced beets, or the Salmon Tartar with a dollop of zesty lemon-chive mouselline hidden inside or the incredibly decadent Foie Gras en Torchon accented with dried apricots and fresh raspberries. These starters will have you shouting "More, More" and rightly so. With entrées like Venison Osso Buco Cassoulet, Short Rib Bourguignon, Berkshire Pork Belly with Red Wine Choucroute and Duck Magret with Roast Squash and Cherry Tomato Confiture, it’s hard to go wrong and even harder to choose. The desserts are equally good and range from creative crêpes like the Dark Chocolate and Candied Orange Peel to the incredibly decadent Bitter Chocolate and Cognac Crème Brulée. Lest you think Paradou is only for dinner, you'd be wrong. They offer an Unlimited Champagne Cocktail Brunch for $25. Try the eponymous ParadouX cocktail and pair it with the Wake & Bake or the Really Big Burger. Reading the menu descriptions of these is alone worth the trip.
